Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery manufacture is a complex process requiring specialised facilities. Much of the manufacturing process takes place inside a cleanroom environment to prevent foreign particles from contaminating the components. However, the high air change rate and powerful filters required for cleanrooms make smoke detection challenging. There are significant fire risks associated with the electrolyte used in Li-ion cells. Organic solvents in the electrolyte are vulnerable to thermal runaway, which can pass from cell to cell, leading to catastrophic loss. Both the manufacturing building and offices also have fire risks that require advanced fire detection solutions.
