OnGuard Database Segmentation

OnGuard® Database Segmentation is an optional feature that provides a logical way to group database components within the system. Administrators define segments within the database, assigning hardware components and objects (access levels, card formats, badge types, etc.) to one or more of those segments. This segment access is then assigned to specific Users based on their responsibility within the system. Operators/Users see only those objects that are within their assigned segment(s) and those objects that are systemwide. In a segmented system, only those records associated with a particular segment are downloaded which makes segmentation beneficial in environments where not every cardholder needs access to every area within a facility.

• Provides a logical way to group entities in your OnGuard System - Segmentation allows logical grouping of hardware devices within your database in support of how you design your facilities or build them out for operator control. This simplifies monitoring or operation of the system within the segments, and provides a additional permission layer so that these users can only see or control what is in their segment.
• More efficient cardholder downloads and panel utilization - Only badges that have access to a particular segment are downloaded to the hardware in that segment. This provides more efficient utilization of the available memory in the access control hardware.
• Ability to Manage User Access to the System - Users are assigned to one or more segments that provide additional permission control. Segmented objects in the system are filtered appropriately so that a user only sees objects that are in their segment(s) or available system-wide.
