After nearly 3 years, fire conferences are returning in full-swing in 2023. COVID-19 put events on pause for some time, but the industry is eager to get back to in-person events for professional development, networking with peers and researching the newest products and technology.
We know it can be difficult to narrow down which conferences are worth your time and budget, which is why we’ve put together a list of the top 6 industry events based off our 20 years in the public safety industry. Our team has attended a variety of industry events over the years and have found these offer the right mix of quality education, great networking opportunities, and innovative vendors.

International Public Safety Consortium 2023
April 16-20, 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina
The International Public Safety Consortium, also known as the International CAD Consortium, is a fantastic event for emergency communications continuing education and networking with industry vendors. Some of the many topics to be discussed at this year’s event are computer aided dispatch, station alerting, Next Gen 911, mapping/GIS, and communications center consolidation.
FDIC 2023
April 24-29, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana
The largest event on the list is the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International. Thousands of fire & rescue professionals from around the world attend for the world-class instructors, classes, workshops, H.O.T. Evolutions and the innovative products and services displayed by over 800 exhibitors. The show emphasizes learning alongside your peers with the goal of recharging your passion for the industry.
NENA 2023
June 17-22, 2023 in Grapevine, Texas
The National Emergency Number Association hosts their national conference this year in Texas, offering education, trainings, keynotes from leadership experts, a variety of networking events and an expo with the latest and greatest products for public safety communications professionals.
APCO 2023
August 6-9, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee
APCO is an incredible event for public safety communications officials, offering educational sessions, committee meetings and special events, paired with two full days of exhibits. Attendees can earn up to 20 CEUs from 10 professional development tracks with more than 120 individual sessions focused on frontline telecommunicators, leadership development, comm center management, cutting edge issues, technology and more. 200+ vendors representing a wide range of public safety communications products and services exhibit at the event as well.
FRI 2023
August 16-18, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri
Fire Rescue International draws fire and emergency service leaders from across the world to learn, network and collaborate. The educational sessions cover topics such as managing change, navigating the political environment, ethical leadership, EMS issues, and career development. Hundreds of exhibitors are in attendance to showcase the newest fire service innovations in apparatus, technology, equipment, gear and more.
FIERO Station Design Symposium 2023

Held annually since 2000, the event is considered the premier forum to learn from professional architects and fire service personnel all aspects of fire station building preparation and execution. The educational offerings developed and managed by F.I.E.R.O. are recognized nationally for a focus on education and disseminating the latest research findings using high-quality educational (non-commercial) speakers. The industry is recognized throughout the industry as an independent organization with no bias toward manufacturers or specific products.
